This Community Toolkit is the result of a three-year project to implement water fluoridation in two New England communities using an innovative, grass roots strategy that includes community organizing, key stakeholder engagement, and social marketing principles.
This new approach recognizes the influential role fluoride opponents have begun to play and seeks to integrate evidence-based, scientific practice with community values, community mobilization, and person-to-person advocacy.
Health Resources in Action provided strategic guidance on communication strategy, coalition building, and community organizing. The strategy, tools, and lessons learned from these campaigns form the basis of this Toolkit, which is designed to be accessible to anyone interested in promoting or preserving water fluoridation in their community.
The Community Toolkit and the three-year campaigns were made possible by the DentaQuest Foundation.
